Small Firms Insurance Options Being Studied

From the growing complaints regarding small business rise on health insurance costs, the Patrick administration is making a much debated proposal which would allow companies to band together, bargain for cheaper rates and make the savings to the employees.

This issue comes as a sensitive one making small business owners across the country make effect of a national insurance overhaul on the companies which would look forward to Massachusetts for assistance. This law also requires businesses to employ full time workers to offer coverage which would pay up for penalty.

As soon as the law came into effect, coverage costs declined by average 15 percent for some individuals but rates for small businesses rose to around 1.5 percent. Previously small business groups were required to buy in bulk from other associations having given them special privileges which includes medical screening to those at a risk.

But recently a new law has been proposed which states that small businesses be given the right to bargain for lower rates. There is still a panel which is studying the administration measures that state representative are studying. Such a proposal would be allowing business with 50 employees to form a non-profit organization which would buy health insurance for state and local employees.

This is a issue which are driving up the costs of health care professionals. Also here the point to note is that as long as doctors and hospitals keep increasing up the prices, health care costs would keep on rising.

Such a bill would allow business owners to lower their costs by shifting the burden which would charge the employees out-of pocket prices. Such a proposal would also hold down employer’s cost making payments to the hospitals and doctors at 10 percent below what Medicare pays up for.
