When you see the unemployed rates in America, it has increased up to 8.5% in 2009 April as compared to 4.9% of last year. Being a part of that rank is stressful enough but this becomes a major misfortune when you loss out your health insurance. Especially for those people who lost their jobs recently and those who have been insured through an employer for most of their time, they are not really aware there are many options available to prevent them from becoming uninsured.

Medicaid

The Medicaid is a health insurance program which is for eligible families or individuals with low income or resources. This program is funded by both the state and federal governments. In some cases, Medicaid may help those people, who have lost their jobs or have their hour job reduced and longer afford to pay the premium of their existing health insurance plan, if they are eligible for their program.

COBRA

COBRA coverage can allow individuals and their dependents to continue an employer’s group health program even when the employment ends. To qualify, the employer must have more 20 or more employees. However, anyone who is under some other group health plan is not eligible for their plan.
